GENERAL INFORMATION

Location

Guangzhou (Canton) is the capital city of   Guangdong Province which is   located along the south coastline of China . The city is also part of the Pearl River Delta and situated next to the Baiyun Mountain.

With a population of 11.8 million, Guangzhou is one of the most economically vibrant cities in China, with thousands of large, small and medium-sized enterprises, industrial areas and a dynamic commerce and financial sector.

The largest tropical fruit wholesale market in China, the Jiangnan market is situated in Guangzhou.

Climate

Guangzhou has a   humid subtropical climate  which is influenced by the Asian monsoon. Summers are wet with high temperatures, high humidity and a high   heat index . Winters are mild and comparatively dry. Guangzhou has a lengthy   monsoon   season, spanning from April through September. Monthly averages range from   13.6 °C   (56.5 °F)   in January to   28.6 °C   (83.5 °F)   in July, while the annual average temperature in Guangzhou is   22.6 °C   (72.7 °F), the   relative humidity   is approximately 68%, whereas   annual rainfall   in the metropolitan area is over 1,700 mm (67 in). Extreme temperatures have ranged from   0 °C   (32 °F)   to39.1 °C   (102 °F).

In June the average temperature range is from 24 °C  to 31.8 °C , therefore it is advisable to be dressed in light clothes.

Money Exchange

The Renmimbi or CNY – Yuan is the official Chinese currency.

The current exchange rate is 1 USD equivalent to 6,43 CNY

Post Symposium Technical Visit

A field visit will be arranged for registered participants on 20 June 2012 to South China biggest fruit market, the Jiangnan fruit wholesale center, litchi and banana germplasm center at GAAS and the National Modern Agricultural Demonstration Farm at Baiyun.
